A wild form of Pequín, Tepín is medium red with a round shape. They are very small chiles, with its name deriving from the Aztec language word for flea. Also known as Chiltepín, this thin fleshed chile has a dry, intense heat flavor with SHU range of 50,000 to 100,000. Tepín Chile is grown in the Sonora region. His chile is commonly used in vinegars, salsas, and soups.
